Sometimes, the dream job finds you.

For me, that project was IndyCar. I was in the middle of another commercial when I got a call from Taylor Fisher, EP at Caravan, asking if I’d be interested in possibly working on an IndyCar spot. My response? “YES! I mean… yes. Let me just double-check my schedule, but pretty sure I’m free.”

Up to that point, my motorsports portfolio was… let’s say, minimal (okay, non-existent). But Taylor took a chance on me. And on top of directing and editing the spot, I also got to co-write the script with the incredibly talented director Bernardo Marentes.

From race days to edit bay.

IndyCar wanted something bold, modern, and fun — approachable for new fans, but still thrilling enough to get the hardcore fans hyped for race day. But the concept was unique from the start: we weren’t shooting anything new. Everything would be built from archival footage.

I spent weeks buried in years of footage, looking for the best fan moments, finding clever transitions, and piecing together a story that felt fresh, exciting, and different from anything IndyCar had done before.

Luckily, I had my dream team.

Jasmine Fox, my favorite post-production manager (and someone I wish could manage my daily life), kept everything organized and running smooth. I also worked closely with a fantastic composer who delivered a killer score that made the whole piece come alive.

We even brought in Darren Barnet to voice the spot (yeah, the Darren Barnet from Never Have I Ever, Anyone But You, and Gran Turismo). He was an absolute pro and added a ton of personality to the final cut.

For two months, I practically lived inside this edit.

No complaints — it was the kind of project you never forget. When the final spot came out, the IndyCar community loved it. Which, if you know racing fans, is no small feat — they’re passionate, high energy, and hard to impress.

Hopefully it’s not my last project with the IndyCar team. They were clear, collaborative, and trusted the process from start to finish. One of the best teams I’ve worked with.

This one was a career highlight.
